In the book of 1st Samuel, the bible tells the story of Hannah, the beloved wife of a devout gentlemen, by the name of Elkanah, but, as is the case with a lot of bible stories, there was a problem. The problem was that Hannah was barren, she was unable to have a child. Not only that, but Elkanah had another wife by the name of Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none. The bible says that “Peninnah provoked her sore, for to make her fret…” In other words, Penninah picked on Hannah, she bullied her, she made life miserable for Hannah. Peninnah was the PREDATOR, Hannah was the PREY!
All of Peninnah’s bullying, pushed Hannah to the point that she decided, something has got to change! She prayed to God and made a vow saying, if you bless me with a child, I will dedicate him to your service. In other words, if you bless me, I’ll bless you back!
The predator’s provoking caused the PREY…to Pray! And when the PREY…PRAYS, God will intervene on their behalf!
Perhaps you feel, or even have been, victimized in some way. You have been stalked, you have been terrorized, you have been bullied. I encourage you to take it to God in prayer! He will hear your cry, and intervene on your behalf. He did it for Hannah, and he will do it for you, because when the PREY…PRAYS, God will answer!
“…she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, because I have asked him of the Lord.” I Samuel 1:20 (KJV)
